Phil’s interest
in motorcycle racing stems from his enthusiastic
parents who have been lifelong fans of the sport
from the early 1960’s and he first attended
a bike meeting in 1975 (when aged just six months!).
From that moment on he has been a regular, travelling
all across the British Isles spectating at the likes
of the TT, NW200 and UGP as well as all the major
British short circuit venues. Phil has a vast collection
of motorcycling memorabilia and has built up a vast,
and unique, knowledge of the sport, which he has
been able to share with others through his writing.
Phil has been a senior contributor to the site since
its inauguration in 2001 and is also a major contributor
to Irish Racer Magazine and PR Officer for a number
of leading riders including John McGuinness, Guy
Martin, Martin Finnegan and Les Shand. Originally
from Burton upon Trent, Phil now lives in London
where he is Head of Administration for a recruitment
company in Covent Garden.
From a young age Stephen
was being taken to motorcycle races along with his
borther David by his father. His earliest memories
are of the Carrowdore 100, just up the road from
where he lives. People say road racing is a bug
and Stephen surely caught it in his early days.
During Stephen's first year at college doing Information
Technology, he started desiging web pages - all
being self taught - with his love for photography
and taking the fast action shots of road racing
he put on-line some of his photos on a web page,
and it was an instant hit from all round the world.
From this and the link-up with Paul the idea of
the RealRoadRacing.Com site took off - and here
we are today. Living in Millisle, County Down, Stephen
works as and I.T. Specialist.
Growing up on Sulby
Straight, Paul had little choice but to follow road
racing. With a father heavily involved in the sport
firstly as rider and more latterly as mechanic,
Paul and his brother were dragged around race tracks
as children, building a lasting fascination with
the sport. In recent years, Paul has become more
actively involved in the sport, working on sponsorship
deals and PR with a host of riders, providing freelance
journalism for local papers, web sites, and more
established outlets like Motor Cycle News, Irish
Racer Magazine and Road Racing Ireland as well as
setting RealRoadRacing.Com up with Stephen in 2001.
Paul was appointed TT and Motorsport Manager for
the Isle of Man in May 2006, and is responsible
for heading up the re-energising of the TT brand.
David from a very young
age was taken to road race meetings in Northern
Ireland by his father (who still attends) and uncle.
With his earliest memories of racing being John
Williams through the flow bog at Dundrod (awesome)
and boyhood heroes like Tom Herron and Joey Dunlop
how could he not still be caught by the greatest
sport on the planet. Now married with children of
his own, one of his own sons is following in the
family tradition and can always been seen at his
side. David has been part of the team at RRR.Com
since its inception, doing whatever he could to
help out the guys including photos, reports, etc
and the Fantasy Road Race League.
Gillian's earliest
road race experience was the Carrowdore 100, the
local and only race her father went too in the year
and she went along and stood on the wall at Dunover
School, Kirkistown on Easter Monday was another
race trip in the year with her aunt and uncle. When
she started dating David in 1984 her interest grew
very quickly and now only misses a meeting when
the guys camp over. She is addicted to road racing
and loves the friendly family atmosphere that surrounds
it. She feels that she has made some great friends
from all over Ireland and further a field and this
has only increased since becoming co-ordinator of
the Fantasy Road Race League.
Coming from a family
heavily involved in Road Racing Sponsorship, Simon
has been spectating at road races from the age of
four. Over the last few years he has become more
involved in reporting and photographing racing all
over Ireland and is currently one of the MCUI’s
youngest registered photographers. Now a student
of Forensic Science at Abertay University in Dundee,
his summer weekends are spent traveling to circuits
all over Ireland where he is responsible for the
reports, photography and live updates on RRR.com.
He has also had pictures printed in several racing
publications and provides PR services for several
top Irish Riders and Teams.
Myles
was born and raised in Skerries, the home of Southern
Irish Road Racing. His love of the sport stems
from his father's involvement in Marshalling/
MC duties. He also supplied fuel to all the leading
riders through the 50's /60's at all Irish Road
Races with Shell. Myles' uncle was a competitor
during the late 1940's and early 50's riding a
"TT Special" Rudge owned by Graham Walker
(Murray's Father). Myles has been attending road
races since the mid '70s including his first TT
in 1974 and has had his Photographs & articles
published with the Worldwide TTSC Magazine/ Road
Racing Ireland and RealRoadRacing.Com. He was
also founder of the Irish TT Supporters Club in
2001 and continues to fundraise for worthy racing
causes. Myles has been involved with RealRoadRacing.Com
in many ways since the beginning and continues
to be involved to date.
Pete
grew up with the TT and loves everything about
the event and the sport in general. A big fan
of Joey Dunlop, it was the 80’s and 90’s
in particular that captured Peter’s imagination
the most, with riders like Hislop and Fogarty
at the height of their prowess. Pete left the
Island to attend University returning complete
with a degree in Illustration, taking a job in
TV animation, eventually making a number of animated
shorts and overseeing much of the process from
storyboard to final film. His career as an illustrator
continued within the world of graphic design with
the production of advertisements and posters for
many high street names such as Nat West, Alliance
& Leicester and others. He soon found a way
of combining his new skills with my love of all
things TT, with the production of portfolios,
websites and graphics for some of the biggest
names in road racing today since becoming self
employed as well as being responsible for the
new TT Brand Identity.
John
has had a lifelong love of bike's and as a regular
rider on the road, has an appreciation of the
skills required to race. A follower of Grand Prix
motorcycle racing from the Barry Sheene heydays
right up to the present and Valentino et al, his
road racing heroes are all real road racers including
Steve Hislop, Joey Dunlop and more recently Richard
Britton. John's job as a Coastguard Watch Officer
brought him from Scotland to Northern Ireland
in early 1998 where his love of the sport through
the National road racing scene grew and grew.
John is as active within the sport as his time
permits in helping various riders including his
late hero Richard Britton, and several current
competitors including Davy Morgan. The Iceman
Trophy is a work in progress of John's in memory
of his friend, Swedish rider Joakim Karlsson who
lost his life at the 2005 TT. Quite happy to work
behind the scenes, John continues to commit his
time, effort and organisational skills to many
fundraising and sponsorship opportunities in order
to maintain this great sport at grass roots leve
and is involved in the multimedia development
on RealRoadRacing.Com.
