2009 Isle of Man TT - Friday Practice: Gary Johnson - Blog

Hey there.

Well what can I say.... the weather had finally give us it's first taste of rain but by the time practice was ready it was dry all round the circuit. Later start caused by a road accident on Bray hill :/ and the session cut to 1hour and 10 min, so it would be 3 and if really lucky 4 laps tonight.

We have put the bike into the same geometry settings as Honda, and we should all be on the same tyres... But I set off down Bray flat-out and she wasn't good... This just is not fun knowing you've got 40 mile of rough track ahead!! I stayed with it and went for it! by Kirk michael I 'd caught Cam on the stocker and conner on the SBK so I knew I was ok, albeit without the brakes a few times lol. (I always just keep on pumping it all the time.

They both pulled a little bit on us till Ramsey were it is rough, they I got past Cam on the run up the mountain, and closed on conner on the way down. There was 35mph winds on the top of the mountain so it made some of the big corners up there a little tricky. I was under'd geared to but there still this problem were not sorting out!! Doing ni on 128mph lap from standing start but she a'nt stable.

Onto the Stocker and as I set off there was some thing wrong? so i did a couple of miles when the tyre felt flat so pulled her up at ballicraine. I wanted to ride her back on the back roads but apparently i'm not insured. so the marshals wouldn't let us, but a kind one did offer us a lift... yes!

Back on Sbk and they lengthened it and lowered the rear, It did help and I had a good lap getting held up alot as your getting mixed up in alot slower riders by now, still mid 127 but it was lot better but it's still weaving down the straights.... Good job these arms arn't toys :)What else can we change??? But all in all a good run, as she is only a really mildly cleaned up stocker engine with long cams in it, if we can get the beast going straight we'll put the extra 20bhp engine in it and up the pace!!!

After only two laps tonight the body does feel better,,, well like I've taken two badly behaving dogs for a walk on the leads in the cattery... so looks like were going in a little blind for tomorrow's race if she does run with the weather... So a big fingers crossed and just have some fun!!

Later GAZ.
