Postby Live Team » August 13th, 2011, 9:20 am

Good morning from the UGP race day. Its a busy place this morning and the weather so far is encouraging. Its grey and overcast but the cloud is higher than it has been with a few breaks in it so we live in hope of a good day.

Superstock bikes were in the holding area when news came through that it was raining at Quarterlands.
Race was declared a wet race and the bikes have now completed their warmup lap and are assembled on the grid. The rain has now moved to the paddock area and although not heavy has dampened the road again. Just waiting on the off now. Safe racing everyone!

A cracking start to the days racing here in Dundrod with drama from start to finish.

Michael Pearson didnt start the race after making a wrong tyre choice. Martin got the holeshot off the line but by Leathemstown had lost it to Gary Johnson who had pulled out a lead of a few seconds. Behind him was M Dunlop, Martin and Farquhar.

At the end of lap one Archibald and Robb had retired and M Dunlop was back in the lead ahead of Johnson, Lougher and Martin with McCormack retiring with a mechanical problem and Farquhar pulling in with a front tyre issue.

By lap 4 M Dunlop was still in the lead but Martin was in close contention behind having dropped Lougher and Johnson off slightly. William Dunlop retired with a brake problem and Shiels retired at Wheelers.

As the leaders took the last lap flag there was nothing between Dunlop and Martin but after the Deers Leap M Dunlop had pulled a slight lead and eventually came home as the winner ahead of Martin. Johnson took 4th by 0.01 from Lougher and Amor was 5th ahead of Cummins

600 supersport bikes blast of the line and it looks like W Dunlop has got the holeshot but at the end of lap 1 its Donald leading from M Dunlop and Gary Johnson as the red flags go out at the start / finish.

We are told quickly that Michal Jiros from the Czech republic is off at the exit of Tournagrouph but is up on his feet though there is debris on the road. The race will be restarted over 5 laps.

Supersport 600 race rerun saw an early lead for Cameron Donald but on lap 2 he had been overtaken by the Dunlop Brothers with William leading until the last lap when he overshot the hairpin letting Michael through to take the win. Ansty came through to take 3rd over Donald while Keith Amor slid off at Leathemstown on the last lap while lying in 5th

Another drama filled race at the Ulster today with the 250's and Supertwins.

The Supertwins were led by on the first lap by Farquhar but young Wayne Hamilton impressed when he took the lead on lap two over Farquhar, Burrows and Archibald. Unfortunately this was short lived when he came up on some 250 riders and slid off at Quarry Bends trying to over take them. This led the way clear for Farquhar who cruised to victory, taking the win by over 1 minute from Archibald and Burrows.

In the 250 class veteran rider Ian Lougher showed his class by taking a win of 7 seconds over Denver Robb and Jamie Coward. Seamus Elliot came up from 6th on the grid to 3rd on the 5th lap but disappeared on the last lap from 3rd place.

Superbikes have gone out now on their first lap and when they pass us at the end of the opening lap its Amor, M Dunlop, Martin and Farquhar on the road but we hear that Ansty has taken the lead on corrected time from group 2. Just as the 2nd wave pass us the red flags go out with reports of rain at Quarterlands. Gary Johnson had retired at the end of lap 1 with a broken gear linkage but will be able to go again on the 6 lap wet race restart.
