Is it wise to have someone catching and overtaking at maybe 40/50mph faster?

Is it fair that a lesser rider who was able to set a time is punished because so called top riders can't??

It was neither. I asked do you find it fair that someone else is punished and move down the start order because two TAS riders could not post a quick time. I've never seen Rossi getting moved up the grid because of safety concerns. If the TAS riders aren't happy with their grid positions then sit the event out rather than punish someone who doesn't deserve it - SIMPLES!!

I think it is totally illogical to say that safety either is or should be the primary concern in motorpsort. If this were the case then no race would take place where there is any issue as to safety. Safety can only be at best the second most important consideration with the primary consideration always being the nature of the sport itself. We may all disagree on the finer points of the nature of the sport e.g classes, grid sizes, race length, vantage points etc... But we all agree on the need for racing to take place on closed public roads so long as the riders want to race, the clubs can run race meetings and the public who wish to spectate can do so.

Apologies for going off on one but the use of the arguments for safety being paramount in motorsport (or any sport) is a ridicluous phrase that will eventually destroy competitive sports in this part of the world if we dont highlight who daft a statement it is.

For the record, safety should be an important consideration in sport but never the most important.

Rant over.

Firstly, there would not be a speed difference of 40-50mph in bikes of the same class and although there is a difference in rider ability, the gulf you hint at is not that wide.

Fast riders passing slower riders for position on the track is called racing...so the answer to your question is I don't have a problem with over taking, it is what we pay to see!!

ok well according to the BBC the grids are as the riders qualified and no movement. Could be a very interesting evening ahead!

Personally I would love to see some of the lesser lights winning or even making the podium especially Bonnetti. He seems to have steadily got faster over the last few years and has the right attitude to learning the roads circuits.

As for the TAS boys being the only one whining on TV From what I saw Philip Neill was the only one specifically asked by Stephen Watson about moving people up the grid and he answered the question. what would you expect him to say? "No we'll happily stay at the back of the grid" :D

Saintfield, you could not have put it better. The phrase 'Safety is paramount' cannot possibly be used in connection with motorsport yet it frequently is. Symptom of the world we now inhabit I suppose.
