Palmer claims
MGP win second time round
Having lead the Senior Classic Manx
Grand Prix twelve months ago before retiring, former
British Champion and double TT winner Chris Palmer made
no mistake this time around, taking Fred Walmsley’s
Manx Norton to victory this afternoon.
The veteran TT star led from the opening
lap seeing off the challenge from Alan Oversby and Steve
Linsdell to record his first win at the Manx. The diminutive
star easily eclipsed his fellow TT aces Ian Lougher
and Ryan Farquhar with Lougher retiring on the third
lap and Farquhar finishing back in sixth place. Martin
Finnegan was a non starter.
With Oversby retiring early on, former
TT ace Linsdell was the only rider to get close to Palmer
on the exotic Paton, but despite the top speed advantage
of the Italian twin, he had to settle for second best
on the day. Former winner Derek Whalley took third place
with the evergreen John Goodall fourth. Paul Coward
was disqualified from 11th place for reportedly having
an oversized petrol tank.
